Our Curriculum

This trauma-informed, highly interactive curriculum is delivered by two well trained, near-peer (women under the age of 30) facilitators. Four, 3-hour units, provide a positive and fun environment that empowers young women to:

Unit 1: Assess: recognize risk cues for sexual violence in situations and in men’s behaviour

Unit 2: Acknowledge: identify and overcome personal obstacles to prioritizing their own sexual rights in acquaintance situations

Unit 3: Act: develop a toolbox of effective strategies to defend their bodies and boundaries

Unit 4: Relationships & Sexuality: explore their relationship values and sexual desires

The content consists of mini-lectures, games, audio and video clips, individual, small, and large group application activities, and 2 hours of empowerment self-defence.

The units can be offered on different occasions (e.g., 4 Wednesday evenings) or grouped (e.g., 2 units on Saturday and 2 on Sunday in a single weekend).

Funders (development and evaluation): Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Ontario Women’s Health Council, Public Health Agency of Canada, Public Health Agency of Canada, and the University of Windsor.

Patricia Rozee and Mary Koss (2001) whose AAA: Assess, Acknowledge, Act conceptualization was the foundation of the program development.

Development of the Flip the Script with EAAA™ program would not have been possible without the support of and collaboration with Wen-Do Women’s Self Defence.

The Relationships and Sexuality unit is based largely on the social justice sexuality curriculum (Our Whole Lives) developed by the Unitarian Universalist Association.

The program has benefited from the support of the Ontario Coalition of Rape Crisis Centres and Soteria Solutions. We use OCRCC’s Draw-the-Line posters and Soteria Solutions’ Know Your Power® posters in our program to reinforce empowered bystander interventions.
